An innovative Twin Cities company is bringing smiles to new moms and jobs to Opportunity Partners workers.
Opportunity Partners assembles hundreds of gift baskets each month for NewMom, Inc., a marketing company that delivers them to doorsteps throughout the Twin Cities.
Clients at Opportunity Partners’ Asplin Center in Plymouth work two days per week filling and wrapping the baskets, which contain a variety of products such as baby socks and rattles, pamphlets on baby care and financial planning, and gift cards for local restaurants and boutiques.
Owner Stacey Schneider said she was drawn to Opportunity Partners because of its mission of providing work opportunities for people with disabilities. “one of the greates experiences we’ve had so far was the opportunity to meet the clients of Opportunity Partners working on our project,” Stacey said. “Their enthusiasm was contagious and reinforced our goal to keep improving and expanding.”
NewMom donates a protion of the profits from the baskets to the Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery.
Stacey said after the birth of her first son she was bombarded with advertising geared toward new parents and found it overwhelming to sort through it all. She started NewMom in 2004 as a way to help families find quality products and services easily.
Currently, the baskets are delivered to new moms in Edina, St. Louis Park, Maple Grove, Eden Prairie and Chanhassen, with pland to expand to more communities.
“NewMom is a perfect job for our clients,” said Val Olson, sales manager at Opportunity Partners. “We enjoy the variety and the ability to do the job at one of our sites, which is convenient for everyone.”
